Passports
Changing biographical information
If you wish to change the information in your passport due to a marriage, divorce, or other similar circumstance, you will need to apply for a new passport. If you meet the criteria for mail-in renewal you may apply by mail. Otherwise, you will need to come personally to the Embassy.
If your current passport was issued less than one year ago, there is no fee for issuing a new passport reflecting the change. You will need to submit:
- Current passport
- A completed form DS-5504, including correct picture. You must complete this form and print it out and then bring it; it is not possible to submit it electronically.
- Original name change document, showing both former and new name, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or navnemelding from the Folkeregisteret. Original documents will be returned.
- Self-addressed envelope with stamps for 100 NOK.
If your current passport was issued more than one year ago, you will need to apply for a new passport. You will need to send in evidence of name change, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or navnemelding, in addition to the other requirements for passport renewal.
