Group from Civita travel to the U.S. on political study tour

In February a group of Norwegian journalists, media commentators, members of Parliament,  and representatives from the think-tank Civita traveled to  Washington DC and Chicago on a political study tour. The Embassy assisted with a program in Chicago through the State Department’s Voluntary Visitor program.

The purpose of the tour was to provide the delegation with a better background on the contemporary U.S. political landscape, transatlantic relations, and socio-economic issues related to immigration. Throughout the weeklong stay they visited independent American think tanks and met with political consultants,  analysts, and representatives from government agencies and both of the major political parties.

Chicago:

  • University of Chicago Department of Economics: A meeting with Nobel Laureate, Dr. Roger Myerson
  • Meeting with Political Consultant Kevin Lampe
  • Chicago Council on Global Affairs
  • State of Illinois Republican Party
  • Obama National Volunteer Office visit

Washington:

  • Meeting with Lt. General William E. Odom, U.S. Army (Ret.) -
  • Cato Institute.
  • PEW Forum on Religion and Public Life
  • CSIS - Center for Strategic and International Studies 
  • Center for American Progress
  • Meeting with David Frum, the American Enterprise Institute
  • Meetings at the U.S. State Department.  Issues: Transatlantic relations; US-Norwegian relations; Afghanistan; The Arctic/Russia/the High North/energy; integration, democracy and Islamic communities.
  • Meetings in the U.S. Congress –  Congressman Rick Larsen, (democrat/ WA) and staff. Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski’s office, Legislative Assistant Chuck Kleeschulte.
