James T. Heg

James T. Heg arrived in Oslo in July 2009 and is the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo. Mr. Heg also acts as Chargé d'Affaires in the absence of the Ambassador. Before coming to Oslo, Mr. Heg was Deputy Chief of Mission and later Chargé d'Affaires in Kingston, Jamaica, from August 2006 to June 2009.

Mr. Heg is married and is a resident of Chelan, Washington.  He is a great-great grandson of Colonel Hans Christian Heg, who emigrated from Norway to Wisconsin, U.S., in 1840.  Colonel Heg led a regiment of Scandinavian troops on the Union side in the American Civil War, and was killed in action at Chickamauga, GA, in September 1863.

Mr. Heg graduated from Rice University (Houston, TX), in 1973 with a BA degree in Economics and Political Science.  He received an MA in Economics from the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) in 1976.  He speaks Spanish, French and Turkish.

Mr. Heg has been in the U.S. Foreign Service since 1979. He served as Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs in Mexico City, and as Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in London. Other postings include Deputy Political Counselor in Ankara, Turkey; Finance and Investment Advisor at the U.S. Mission to the OECD in Paris; Economic/Commercial Officer in Managua, Nicaragua; and Economic Officer/Vice Consul in Caracas, Venezuela.
