Embassy Pleased at Rezoning of the Site for a New U.S. Embassy at Huseby

Press Release, 12/07/2005

The U.S. Embassy is very pleased with the Oslo City Council’s decision to approve the rezoning of the site for a new U.S. Embassy at Huseby. We greatly appreciate the support given by a majority of the elected representatives of the people of Oslo. We also express our gratitude for the support that many other individuals provided to bring about this outcome.

The construction of a facility at Huseby will allow us to meet our commitment to the citizens of Oslo to relocate the U.S. Embassy to a safer, more secure site outside the city center.

We recognize that this decision was a difficult one for the City Council and that a significant number of citizens, mainly in the Huseby neighborhood, are unhappy with the outcome. We will do our best to convince Huseby’s residents that the U.S. Embassy will be a good neighbor.

Over time, the Embassy hopes and believes that many of those opposed to the decision will view the new location of the U.S. Embassy as a benefit to the city of Oslo as a whole and one that will not disrupt the quality of life of our new neighbors.
