Q: I have a valid Norwegian Oppholdstillatelse or Arbeidstillatelse in my expiring (or expired) U.S. passport.  I need a new U.S. passport.  What will happen to the Oppholdstillatelse or Arbeidstillatelse when I get my new U.S. passport?

A: If you do not want us to cancel your Oppholdstillatelse or Arbeidstillatelse, please mark the appropriate page with a post-it note or some other marking so that we know that you do not want us to cancel that page. When you receive your new passport, you also receive your old one, with a canceled stamp and the required holes punched. There are no holes punched in the page bearing the Oppholdstillatelse or Arbeidstillatelse and you can therefore continue to use it.
