  • Students and Erik Solheim at Embassy polar event

    On June 6, The Embassy celebrated the return of polar explorers from the Will Steger expedition by inviting more than 100 students and Minister of Environment Erik Solheim to Ambassador Whitney’s backyard. The theme of the day was climate change and global warming – the main focus of the expedition.

The Embassy is closed for Independence Day on July 4
The Embassy is closed on July 4 due to the American Independence Day. We will be open again as normal on July 7.

Ambassador Whitney on Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP) 2008
In a statement following the TIP 2008 Report, Ambassador Whitney expresses his concerns about this growing global challenge. "Human trafficking is a crime that steals peoples’ freedom and dignity" and cooperation is needed to abolish this trade in people.

Unveiling of George Marshall statue
On Monday June 16, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre unveiled a statue of George C. Marshall at Nordre Akershus quay. The statue, by Norwegian sculptor Asbjørn Høglund, stands near the FDR monument on the east side of Oslo's harbor.

New procedures for travel to the U.S.
As of January 12, 2009, all persons traveling to the United States on the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) will need to register electronically before travelling to the U.S. Read press release here.

Updates on the New Embassy Compound at Huseby
In 2004, the U.S. Government signed a purchase agreement with the Norwegian Ministry of Defense for a tract of land at Huseby as the site for a new Embassy. Read more...
