Religious diversity and climate: Journalist grantees selected (October 6, 2009)

In July, the U.S. Embassy in Oslo announced a grants competition for journalists who want to pursue stories in the United States. We received several good proposals, and were pleased with the variety and quality of the applications. The jury, consisting of retired NRK journalist and U.S. expert Bjørn Hansen, Assistant Professor of Journalism at Oslo University College Nazneen Kahn-Østrem, Media Advisor Marit Andersen, and Councilor for Press, Education and Cultural Affairs Hilary Olsin-Windecker decided on two winning projects;

Journalist Charlotte Berrefjord Bergløff and photographer Christopher Olssøn will explore religious diversity in Los Angeles which, with more than 600 separate faith communities, has by-passed London and New York as the world's most religiously pluralist metropolitan region.

Writer and commentator Jan Arild Snoen will travel to Washington D.C. and California exploring U.S. climate policies, investigating issues such as the environmental lobby, The Waxman-Markey bill, the cap-and-trade and offsets systems, state initiatives and technological development.

We look forward to their stories coming out next year!
