Ambassador Whitney delivers American fighter jet bid (April 28)
On April 28, Ambassador Whitney joined Lockheed Martin executive Vice President and JSF program general manager Tom Burbage to hand over the American bid to Minister of Defense Anne Grethe Strøm-Erichsen at Akershus Castle in Oslo. Lockheed Martin’s Joint Strike Fighter F-35 Lightning II is competing with Sweden’s JAS Gripen to become Norway’s new fighter jet, replacing the very successful F-16 program. The government of Norway is expected to make its recommendation to Stortinget in December, with a final decision to be made in Stortinget next year.
