Press Release on Embassy Relocation

Embassy of the United States of America
Press release

June 23, 2004

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that its new location will be a tract of land at Huseby in Oslo. An agreement has been signed between representatives of the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Defense, owner of the Huseby property. Also involved in these negotiations were representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oslo Kommune, Skifte Eiendom, and the Embassy's Norwegian counsel, Advokatfirma DLA Nordic DA.

The Huseby location meets the U.S. Government's space, security and other requirements, and is also a very attractive location, convenient to the Oslo city center and readily accessible via public transportation.

The search for a new location has been a long and vigorous one, and the Embassy is very pleased to be able finally to take this important first step in fulfilling its commitment to move from its current Drammensveien location.

This is the first of many steps involved. The process of moving an Embassy is time-consuming and complicated, and the Embassy will fully respect and comply with all Norwegian and American laws, rules, processes and procedures throughout this process. We are grateful for the cooperation and consideration of everyone involved, and we look forward to working with the Norwegian authorities to implement the Embassy's move to Huseby.
